CAIRNBORROW WIND FARM

Cairnborrow Wind Farm is a 10MW wind farm comprising five wind turbines which generate enough electricity to power over 5,700 homes and will save around 262,000 tonnes of carbon-dioxide in its 25 year lifespan.  The wind farm is located on the border of the parishes of Cairnie and Glass and is owned and operated by energy company ENGIE.

Following an agreement signed with Huntly and District Development Trust in 2016, ENGIE provides a significant annual community benefit payment of £5,000 per MW or 10% of annual profits (whichever is the greater).

Cairnie and Glass Community Trust receive a proportion of this amount for distribution to local projects.  In 2018 this sum was around £13,000.

Cairnie Glass Community Trust acknowledge Engie as funders of the Cairnborrow Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund and Huntly & District Development Trust for facilitation of the grants.
